Introducing Whisper e-paper displays
Low-power, high-visibility displays for accurate travel information in temporary and non-traditional travel environments
Low-power displays, high passenger confidence.
Our Whisper information displays ensure that clear, reliable and accessible travel information is always available, even in locations that don’t support traditional digital solutions.
Infotec’s battery-powered and solar-assisted displays can be used to deliver the same quality and clarity without needing permanent electrical supply or extensive installation works. And Whisper displays deliver total clarity, even in areas of direct sunlight.
By pulling information from existing passenger information systems, Whisper displays keep customers connected throughout their journeys. No passenger should have to compromise on their confidence, and these low-power displays ensure customers get the information they need, even in remote or temporary locations.

Benefits
Keeping information flowing through challenging and non‑traditional travel environments.
Ultra-low power consumption
The technology uses minimal energy, reducing running costs and maximising battery life.
No permanent power connection required
Battery-powered operation means the displays can be installed anywhere.
Clear readability, increased accessibility
High-contrast optically bonded panels mean information remains easy to read, even in direct sunlight.
Live passenger information and remote updates
Displays receive updates from existing information systems, supplying passengers with relevant and up‑to‑date travel information. Content can be updated remotely to reduce manual or on-site replacement of printed notices.
Quick, flexible installation
Can be mounted to suitable existing infrastructure, reducing installation time, civil engineering requirements and disruption.
Wireless connectivity
Removes the need for dedicated data cabling and supports deployment beyond traditional station infrastructure.
Solar-assisted power options
Facilitates further reductions in energy consumption, whilst offering additional options for off‑grid locations.
Reduced maintenance requirements
Low-power technology, replaceable battery options and remote diagnostics help minimise routine site visits.
Product Overview
Built for reliability, designed for accessibility, engineered for confidence.
Sustainable technology
E-paper uses bistable technology to create a high-contrast image that resembles printed text on paper. The display only needs power when changing on-screen information, which perfectly suits the display of information and keeps energy consumption low.
Information remains crisp and clear in daylight, because e-paper displays use ambient lighting for improved visibility. In darker conditions, the display should be supported by an external lighting source to maintain maximum readability.
Easy deployment
Customer confidence can be maintained even in challenging conditions, because e-paper displays can run on battery power, with rechargeable battery and solar-assisted configurations available.
Thanks to wireless functionality, the displays don’t need a physical cable connection to receive information, ensuring a better passenger experience in remote locations, during planned works and for temporary arrangements.
High-quality passenger information
Our e-paper displays work with existing passenger information data, providing a consistent source of information across different display technologies. Rather than relying on manually updated printed notices, information can be delivered electronically from an agreed data source with no discrepancies or delays.
Optional configurations within the Whisper Series include alternative mounting orientations, enhanced screen protection, solar-assisted power, audio capabilities and double-sided displays.
Applications
Perfect for improving customer service and confidence in the most challenging situations.
Particularly suited to locations where installing a conventional digital screen may be impractical or uneconomical, Whisper displays can be installed on any suitable existing infrastructure.

Railway stations and rail replacement bus services Providing live departure times, destinations and service information during engineering works and disruption. This is ideal for smaller stations, secondary entrances, remote platforms, and areas where existing customer information coverage is limited. Temporary events and engineering works Deploy displays for planned closures, route changes, station works and major events where additional information is needed for a limited period. Remote and rural locations Battery and solar-assisted configurations ensure accurate information is provided at locations where installing traditional infrastructure would be costly. Bus stops and transport interchanges Supplying passengers with departure information, timetable updates and onward travel connections without requiring permanent power and data infrastructure. Smart cities and kerbside information The displays are suitable for loading bays, parking availability, booking status and other applications that require remotely managed information. |
Case study - TRU Upgrade ProgrammeWhisper displays have been successfully trialled at Huddersfield station in partnership with TransPennine Route Upgrade (TRU) and TransPennine Express. Installed at the station’s replacement bus departure area, the display provides passengers with live bus destinations and departure times using the same Magellan TIGER data feed as the station’s existing Customer Information System. The trial demonstrates how low-power digital displays can extend reliable travel information beyond the traditional station environment, helping passengers navigate disruption and find their onward connections with greater confidence. |
